Los Angeles is the film & television capital of the world, home to movie studios, celebrity mansions, the Walk of Fame on Hollywood Blvd, and of course the iconic Hollywood sign. The city’s mediterranean climate is always good for sightseeing, and we highly recommend spending a few days in LA before your trip begins, to experience all that the City of Angels has to offer! 

Los Angeles, CA

After picking-up your bike in the morning it’s time to begin the ultimate motorcycle road trip! The legendary Route 66 is a 2,300-mile odyssey right through the heart of America, between California and Illinois, and it’s time to get started!
Your reverse trip on “America’s Main Street” begins at the landmark Santa Monica Pier, which is the western end of Route 66. Next you’ll pass by the skyline of downtown LA on your way up the Angeles Crest Highway, one of the best motorcycle roads in California! Your first riding day ends in Victorville.  


Los Angeles, CA – Victorville, CA

One thing is for sure, this riding day is like none other as you traverse the Mojave Desert, which offers some of the most desolate and dramatic scenery in the USA. You can imagine what it must have been like for early Route 66 travelers making their way across this huge expanse of desert, dotted with Joshua Trees, cactus, volcanic rock, and sand. Its rugged terrain extends all the way to the day’s destination of Laughlin, Nevada, situated along the shores of the Colorado River. Soak up the landscape all you can today – as your journey continues east it will showcase very different geography! 

Victorville, CA – Laughlin, NV

Day 4 is one of the best days of the tour, as you ride on old Route 66 all day! First you’ll cross over into Arizona and visit the mining ghost town of Oatman, known for its wild burros and winding roads! Next up is the general store in Hackberry, and a terrific stop for lunch in Seligman, which was instrumental in the preservation effort to save Route 66 and famous as the inspiration for the town of Radiator Springs in the Pixar movie Cars. You’ll end the day riding through the Kaibab National Forest and stay in the railroad town of Williams, just south of the Grand Canyon.  

Laughlin, NV – Williams, CA

This morning you will detour slightly from Route 66 to see one of Nature’s greatest wonders: the Grand Canyon. Words cannot describe its majesty, you have to see it for yourself!  The ride to the rim is only about an hour, allowing plenty of time for sightseeing in the middle of the day. If you have time, we highly recommend the IMAX movie in the nearby town of Tusayan, it is an incredible visual experience of the canyon. Photo stops abound on your way to the Desert View Watchtower at the park’s eastern edge, before heading south and finishing the day in Flagstaff. 

Williams, CA – Flagstaff, AZ

The majority of this day’s ride is also spent on Route 66, with several famous stops along the way. First up is “Standin’ on the Corner in Winslow, Arizona”, famous from the Eagles’ 1972 song Take It Easy. Next up are the iconic concrete ‘teepees’ at the Wigwam Motel in Holbrook - this kind of roadside attraction is representative of the countless motels and restaurants you’ll see on this tour, trying to attract motorists on the great American road trip. Just before Gallup and the New Mexico border is Petrified Forest National Park, full of prehistoric trees unearthed by millions of year of erosion.

Flagstaff, AZ – Gallup, NM

Today you’ll get to know New Mexico, aptly nicknamed “The Land of Enchantment”. On your way east you’ll enter the land of the Comanche Indians, where mesas, mountains, cactus and pine trees define the landscape of the High Plains region of central New Mexico. Inhabited for over a thousand years, Santa Fe (“holy faith” in Spanish) is one of America’s oldest and most beautiful cities, full of culturally influential art and architecture celebrating its storied heritage. Most notable is the central Plaza in the scenic heart of Old Town, around which the city is built.

Gallup, NM – Santa Fe, NM

Your exciting trip on Route 66 concludes today but the fun isn’t over yet! Take the morning to enjoy a stroll in Santa Fe before continuing to Albuquerque, New Mexico’s largest city. On the way you can ride through the hamlet of Madrid, home to Maggie’s Diner from the famous biker comedy film Wild Hogs. If you would like to stay in town a little longer, we can easily arrange an extra night or two for you, or even a discounted motorcycle rental! 

Santa Fe, NM – Albuquerque, NM
